reconcept GmbH, an asset manager and project developer for renewable energies, is systematically expanding its successful activities in Finland. In addition to the development of wind farms, which has been established since 2013, the company will also focus on plants for the production of green hydrogen in the future - both through the subsequent expansion of existing wind farms and through the initial planning of hybrid farms, i.e. the combination of wind and/or solar energy, electricity storage projects and electrolysers for hydrogen production as a single unit. To this end, the subsidiary Vetyalfa Oy was founded via the joint venture Tuulialfa Oy, which is one of the ten leading project developers of wind farms in Finland.

The first hydrogen projects are already in the project development phase - with the aim of developing them ready for construction by 2028 and then bringing them to market. Vetyalfa Oy has set itself the goal of achieving emission-free hydrogen production of 100,000 tons per year by 2030. This corresponds to around one tenth of Finland's overall target, according to which Finland aims to account for at least 10 percent of total green hydrogen production in the EU by 2030.

Green hydrogen plays a key role in Finland's climate strategy and is also an essential building block in several international agreements, such as the Paris Climate Agreement of 2015 and the EU Commission's Green Deal of 2019. In principle, hydrogen can serve as a basis for fuels and combustibles to replace coal, oil and natural gas in industry and transport, for example. Green hydrogen - i.e. hydrogen that is produced using renewable energies - is seen as a key energy source of the future.
The enormous wind power potential in Finland is an ideal basis for the production of green hydrogen. In Finland, reconcept is working on a project development pipeline of 3,900 MW that can be used as a source of green hydrogen. Accordingly, reconcept has a positive view of the market potential of hydrogen plants in Finland. “Finland wants to take a decisive position in the production of green hydrogen in Europe. Through our new subsidiary Vetyalfa Oy, we have been an active part of the national hydrogen roadmap from the very beginning and are making a further contribution to Finland becoming climate-neutral by 2035 as planned,” explains Karsten Reetz, Managing Partner of reconcept GmbH.
