Spain, reconcept’s youngest international core market, is developing particularly dynamically. There, the company is building up a project pipeline comprising photovoltaic projects and battery storage systems. In Finland and Canada, larger project sales are pending.
“We are currently seeing encouraging developments in our international markets. Rising electricity demand, increasing electrification and the expansion of data centres are driving demand for additional renewable power generation and flexible energy storage solutions,” says Karsten Reetz, Managing Director of reconcept GmbH. “Our strategy is to identify market opportunities at an early stage and turn them into concrete projects. The fact that larger sales transactions are currently being completed in several markets confirms this approach.”
reconcept in Spain: 600 MWp of solar and 750 MW of battery storage under development
Spain is reconcept’s youngest international core market and one of Europe’s most dynamic solar markets: Around 60 percent of electricity generation already comes from renewable sources. At the same time, electricity demand is growing, driven among other factors by increasing electrification in industry and the emergence of data centres, which, according to a recently drafted decree by the Spanish government, are to be powered by 80 percent renewable energy in future. This is increasing not only the need for renewable power generation, but also for storage systems that enable a reliable electricity supply.
In Spain, reconcept is developing photovoltaic projects for direct industrial offtakers and combining them with battery storage systems. The current pipeline comprises around 600 megawatts peak (MWp) of solar capacity as well as battery storage systems with a total capacity of around 750 megawatts (MW) and 3,000 megawatt-hours (MWh) of storage duration. Of this total, around 300 MW / 1,200 MWh relates to co-located battery storage systems and around 450 MW / 1,800 MWh to seven standalone storage systems.
The policy framework is also evolving: Spain has recently adopted a capacity mechanism that includes battery storage systems, among other technologies. The aim is to create incentives for additional flexible and firm capacity in the electricity system. For reconcept, Spain is therefore an example of how rising electricity demand, growing solar deployment and increasing demand for storage are combining to create new project opportunities.
reconcept in Finland: storage transactions exceeding 1.2 GW
Project development is also progressing in Finland, where reconcept has been active since 2013. Vetyalfa Oy, a company within the reconcept Group, is developing a green hydrogen project in Utajärvi, among other activities. An electrolysis capacity of up to 1 GW is planned. Government funding of EUR 150 million has already been approved for the project, and the zoning plan for the industrial area recently became legally binding.
In addition to the hydrogen plant, a wind farm is planned on the site, which could supply electricity for the production of green hydrogen in the future. Finland offers excellent conditions for renewable energy production and is also pursuing ambitious targets for developing a hydrogen economy. Additional electricity demand is being generated, among other factors, by the expansion of data centres.
Battery storage is also becoming increasingly important. The reconcept Group now has a battery storage project pipeline in Finland of more than 1,200 MW. At present, project rights for storage technologies with a capacity of more than 1.2 GW are also being sold. Overall, the Finnish pipeline comprises more than 10 GW of renewable energy and energy storage projects, which are progressively developed to ready-to-build status and then sold.
reconcept in Canada: transaction for almost 1 GW of wind, solar and storage
The expansion of renewable energies is also gaining momentum again in Canada. The background is growing electricity demand, driven among other factors by electrification and industrial development. reconcept has been active in Canada since 2014.
At the end of 2025, reconcept sold the rights to a 30 MW solar project in Ontario, while continuing to support the project’s development. The project has since been selected as one of 14 projects to receive a 20-year power purchase agreement from the provincial system operator, the Independent Electricity System Operator (IESO). The tender was the first of its kind in Ontario in several years.
reconcept is currently selling a project portfolio of almost 1 GW comprising four wind farms, two solar projects and three battery storage systems in 3 markets within Canada. The transaction is expected to close in the first quarter of 2027.
reconcept relies on diversified project development
With Germany and its international core markets Finland, Canada and Spain, reconcept is pursuing a diversified growth strategy. The projects differ in terms of technology, electricity market and stage of development. What they have in common, however, is a shared driver: growing demand for climate-friendly power generation and flexibility.
“Project development naturally remains challenging in all markets. Permitting, grid connections, financing and changing regulatory frameworks repeatedly present us with challenges,” says Christiane Kaufholt-Mecke, Managing Director of reconcept GmbH. “At the same time, the current project progress and transactions show that our international positioning and early market entry have put us in a strong position.”
This early-established market position is increasingly translating into concrete projects that benefit landowners, municipalities and, last but not least, investors in reconcept bonds.
About reconcept
Founded in 1998, reconcept is one of the pioneers in the field of renewable energies. reconcept develops photovoltaic, wind, hydropower and tidal power projects as well as energy storage solutions in Germany and abroad. Its core markets are Germany, Finland, Canada and Spain. reconcept also sees growth potential in Southeast Asia. Project development is financed through the issuance of its own bonds. Together with more than 21,500 investors, reconcept has realised a total investment volume of around EUR 685 million (as of 31 December 2025).
